Make Sure Your Site Loads Fast

August 30th, 2008 filed under Universe Of Webs

Patience and time are two of the precious attributes why you have to make your site easy to load. Patience because visitors do not have patience to stick with your site until your site has fully loaded. Visitors can change their mind in just a flick of a finger thus your site must load as fast as a flick of a finger to keep them from running away. Remember that they have lots of alternative sites to choose from so give them reason to consider your site? Time, on the other hand, is an essential element to everyone. Who would want delay when you can have prompt results with other websites?

What therefore, are the things to be considered? First, we have to bear in mind that not everyone has cable modem, T1 or ISDN connection to the internet. Thus, web designers must ensure that sites load as fast as possible.

Second, we have to consider the bandwidth. Avoid using multimedia forms. These sound files can take up immense bandwidth especially if they are .wav file. Videos can also be more demanding to loading a site. If it is unnecessary or there are other alternatives to multimedia, then, do not use it. If ever it is pretty important to have them in your site, limit the size - that’s your last alternative.

Big images mean big loading problem. Aside from multimedia forms, also limit the use of huge images. In order to reduce them, use simple and smaller dimensions. You can do this by resizing or compressing your images. There are tutorials available on the Net which will guide you on how to reduce size of images without making it look grotesque and unclear.

After, resizing or compressing, you can use your images on the front page and it will be in the browser’s cache and it will load quickly on other pages when called for. Therefore, you need not worry about loading them again and again.

Defining both the length and the width of the image can also be a good alternative. In addition, it will update you on how much space it will utilize therefore saves time.

Another thing that you can do is to make your front page as short as possible so that it will not take long to load. Explanations and prolonged discussions must be put on the next pages.

After you have done these techniques, do some tests. If you are satisfied with the loading time - better!

7 Money-Making Strategies To Use An Autoresponder

August 28th, 2008 filed under Universe Of Webs

Autoresponders are such a great followup tool, it’s almost unthinkable to go without them.
They are easy to set up, and you can have them follow up on your subscribers with an limited amount of preset messages.
Yet, many people fail to see the power on an automatic responder tool, and never really use it. This article is dedicated to all these people. So, let’s take a look at some of the most innovative strategies to use an autoresponder:

1. Put a signup form on your site. This one is the most obvious, yet, many people don’t do it. Just think, if your websites gets 100 visitors a day, and only %20 of them signup with your autoresponder. After one year you will have a subscriber base of 7300 people you can contact every time you want! This is a great way to keep in touch with your audience, and to increase the repetitive visitors to your site, over time.

2. Give an ebook or free report - it’s very easy to give people a free report or ebook in exchange for their email. Even if you don’t have a website, you can make the free ebook available if people just send a blank email to your auto responder address. This way you can build a list AND distribute a report that can make you money too (if the report has links to your products/affiliate links).

3. Publish an e-course or an ezine - you can load your autoresponder with an e-course that has several parts (3 to 7 parts will do). This way, you build rapport with your subscriber, and give them useful information they can use and benefit from. They will love you for that and will reciprocate by buying the product you recommend, later on. But only after a relationship is established, you can send them product endorsements - because now they know and trust you.

4. Use them as curriers for your message - with every email you send them ask them to pass it along to their friends. This will earn you even more subscribers over time.

5. Automated Customer care - You can use an auto responder to answer %80-%90 of customer care issues. When someone sends an email to your customer care, just answer with an automated replay, detailing most of the common issues. a great deal of your customers will find the answer they looked for in that automated email.

6. Site updates - If your site is constantly updated, you can use an auto responder to collect emails from people who wand to know when you updated your site. So just send them a broadcast email when ever site updates.

7. Give confidential details - you can use an autoresponder to provide only the interested people with price lists, terms and conditions, special terms and everything else you don’t want to advertise on you site. They will have to put their email into a special auto responder that will give them that information.

No More Oreos? Tell Me it isn’t True!

August 25th, 2008 filed under Beyond Cats

Another good citizen comes to the aid of the uninformed public. After years of eating Oreos, and enjoying them tremendously, somebody put on a pound or two. Who’s to blame? You know somebody is to blame. It couldn’t be the fault of the user. Did she exercise? Did she walk? Did she do her housework? No, she sat in front of her T.V. and ate Oreos.

When she realized she had gotten a little pudgy around the middle, she didn’t like it. She complained to a lawyer friend. The lawyer friend listened to her crying about being fat and did his best to assure her she was still beautiful. To make her feel better, he got them both glasses of milk and took a fresh bag of Oreos from her cabinet.

Making themselves comfortable at the kitchen table, they continued to dip the cookies and argue whether she was fat or not. For hours. Finally, to shut her up, he said he would find the cause. He absolutely knew it wasn’t her fault and he told her so.

And what did he discover while reading the ingredient list on the side of the bag? It’s the fault of Oreos! There is fat in the white filling! Shazam! Who would’ve thunk it? I wonder which college he went to? He was amazing! Now, another American icon is about to be erased.

Dads will not be able to show their sons how to twist off the top cookie carefully so they can lick the filling off. Little brothers will no longer be able to dip their Oreo into their big brother’s glass of milk, and enjoy a bit of brotherly camaraderie before being pushed away roughly. What will mothers put in the lunch boxes? Will we be able to carry one more straw of added stress in our daily lives?

In the years to come, someone will remember Oreos lovingly, and the children will say, “What the heck is an Oreo?”

Or beg, “Tell us about the old days, Daddy, when you use to eat Oreos.” Fathers will sigh sadly, and brush a tear away.

People are going to start hoarding them, just wait and see. The neighbor across the street just put a padlock on his freezer in his garage. I just know he has Oreos in there.

On Halloween, Oreo came out with orange filling. (I wonder if it was to get rid of the white filling that had the fat in it? Hey, it works for me.) They also have double chocolate. A cookie with chocolate filling. Oh, they probably have a lot of new ideas in their secret files. Now, what will they do if they are shut down?

People will lose their jobs. Nabisco will go bankrupt. It’s a real shame, but will the good citizen, with the over zealous lawyer, care? No. She knows her duty. Her concern is over the rest of us getting fat. She is looking out for us that are too ignorant to know there is fat in the filling. Anyone out there who didn’t already know this? Anyone?

I like fat. It keeps my hair shiny and my skin soft. Doing
without a bit of fat turns you into a dried up prune with straw for hair. I’d rather be round, myself.

Oreos are the cookies of distinction. You don’t just buy chocolate cookies. You must buy Oreos. When you bring the kids in for milk and cookies, their ears hear “milk and Oreos!” Can any other cookie put that ring of chocolate around a child’s mouth so sweetly? I don’t think so.

If this can be done to the King of cookies, what’s next? Ice Cream? Reese’s minis? The Golden Arches? It’s time for people to revolt. Stand up for your right to eat Oreos! In the meantime, run and grab all you can before they’re gone!

Update! May 17, 2003

The suit has been dropped. Wow! People can stand up and be revolting - it works! Kids can keep enjoying their Oreos, and mom and dad will not have to freeze them or hide them from the neighbors.

I wonder what else is on the Endangered Food List?

How Small Business Owners Can Avoid Regrets For Not Trying

August 24th, 2008 filed under Beyond Cats

Getting your small business or home business online basically is a really simple matter.

Many business owners can not believe this. They don’t sell
their own products that they create and can be proud of.
They are leaving lots of money on the table.

Why?

I think most of them don’t do it because they just don’t
try!
They think it’s too difficult, or it will take too
long, or it will be too expensive to get started or they
don’t know enough about business or or or …

Or they might think the necessary software is too
expensive or too complicated to use. They don’t realize
that a lot of things you need to create very high-quality
products are available on the Net for free.

Also they often think it takes a big investment to get
started, but at under $150 a year they can have everything
they need to get going.

Altogether my guess is that they feel it’s too knotty, too
much to learn and comprehend!

It isn’t!

The process is easy.

All it takes is some time and dedication.
Getting your business online is like adding a new branch
to your commercial enterprise. It’s another income stream
and it very well could be a big one.
Doesn’t that deserve some commitment?

To get your business online, you need to:

1. Get a product.

It’s not difficult at all to create one. Just make sure
that it is something other people are willing to pay money
for and that YOU are interested in, so that you’ll stick
with it. But that’s easy, because it’s about your business,
isn’t it?

2. Create a sales site.

Ok this may be the hardest part, but then there are so many
places you can get examples from that you only have to
write your own product story.
And there are enough free (software) tools that you’ll need
available on the Net.

3. Accept payments.

Easy, just use a third party payment processing service to
start with. Some of them are free, you only pay per
transaction. Later you can decide to get your own accounts.

4. Create sales and affiliates.

Once you’re ready, you have to promote your product on the
Net using advertising and giving advice in places where
your potential customers hang out. You also have to write
great value articles and submit them. And these articles
can be as simple as just summing up the steps necessary to
accomplish something.

At the same time you want to build an affiliate sales team
that will send you visitors to buy your products in
exchange for which they will receive a commission.
This is where the automatic long-term money is.

That’s basically it.

I realize this overview is only a nutshell and that it
takes some more time to work this out, but these are the
very basics. Seeing it this way keeps the process simple!

Dedication and persistence is everything. If you want it,
you can do it. If you can run an offline business with
all the problems that come with that, you can also run
an online one.

I can assure you, it works. It’s worked for me, and it’s
worked for a lot of people I know who are making thousands
(or tens of thousands) of dollars every month.

Just try before you regret it!

The author, Case Stevens of AnOwnSite Internet Marketing,
wants to ask you one important question…

“If you could start your own online business, in just
a week or two, with almost no expense to get started …

Would you do it?”

If you said yes, he’s got some good news for you here Create Your Own Simple Business Site Now!

Solar Power Can Knock Money off Your Electricity Bill

August 22nd, 2008 filed under Universe Of Real Estate, World Of Home Improvement

When fuel prices were low, it was unnecessary to justify the upfront investment of money required to install photovoltaic equipment, solar water heaters and similar equipment. The reason was simple to understand - it would simply take too long to recoup the cost of the equipment in the form of lower energy bills.

But prices are now higher than many of us ever expected. As energy prices continue to go up, the amount of time required to recoup the upfront cost goes down. In addition, a number of state and local tax incentives make it even easier for homeowners to go solar and save money right away.

Photovoltaic systems have also come a long way. The costs of installing solar panels is still high, with a typical two kilowatt installation of OVR Solar solar panels costing in the region of £10,000 / ($20, 000) in most cases, but special tax incentives and long term energy savings can help homeowners recoup those upfront costs faster than ever before.

For example, the Federal government provides homeowners with a tax savings of up to 30% of the cost of a solar unit. This tax savings can help eligible homeowners recoup some of the costs of installing solar panels and solar water heating systems up front, in addition to the energy savings they will enjoy down the road.

Any homeowner considering the installation of a solar system should be sure to check with his or her state and city to determine what types of tax breaks are available. It’s sensible to look into what help your local authorities are willing to provide. Just Google it to find out what help is available to you.

Try running some estimates once you have some figures to see how long it might take for you to break even at todays fuels prices.. However, as the prices for heating oil, gas and other forms of traditional energy continue to soar, the appeal of solar energy will only grow.

Success Through Persistence In The Face Of Criticism

August 22nd, 2008 filed under Beyond Cats

Criticism can destroy or stimulate. It is especially powerful when we are our own critics. Most individuals or groups will have to face up to and deal with their own or someone else’s criticism if they wish for success.

The Ukraine team lost 0-4 in their first group match of the Word Cup 2006. They were so motivated by this loss and the resulting criticism that they won their next match by 4-0. They played like a different team. Fair criticism worked well for them!

David Beckham, England’s captain, has one way of dealing with criticism - work. Hard work is one effective response to criticism.

Some football coaches have banned newspapers from their training camps in case the comments of the media demoralized their teams. These coaches realize the damage that unfair, negative comments can do. We criticize ourselves enough without the assistance of the press!

Unfair criticism, especially self-criticism, can break you unless you believe so much in what you are doing that you can persist in working without recognition.

When I was moved up a year at my school I was criticized by my new classmates who were a year older than me. They called me ‘Watty The Swat!”

I thought I must be doing something wrong and gave up working for the next two years. Later, I realized that there is nothing wrong with working hard but criticism can mean that you start to doubt your own values.

One group who persisted and worked on in the face of unfair criticism were the French Impressionist painters. Recently a BBC program featured their lives.

The program claims to be based on true records from the past but one must allow for some poetic license in the narrative and dialogue.

Monet lived longer than his Impressionists friends and was eventually able to enjoy the success and recognition his talent deserved. However, even he had to suffer the criticism of fools.

At one point the Impressionists held their own unsuccessful exhibition at the Salon of Rejects. One visitor paid his franc for a ticket and read aloud the following press critique:

“On looking at the first rough works and ‘rough’ is the right word, one simply shrugs one shoulders. On seeing the next lot, you burst out laughing but, at the last one, you finally get angry and you are sorry that you did not give the franc you paid to get in to some poor beggar.”

The visitor commented: “No, that’s not it. No! Give your franc to a beggar then he can go and buy two of their paintings with it.”

In another incident, a man and a woman were laughing at one of Monet’s paintings. Monet noticed this with some annoyance and went over to confront them.

“Something about the work that you don’t understand?” he asked.

The man replied with a smirk:

“Oh! the artist himself. Actually, I do have a question. Yes! How is your eyesight?”

Monet was furious: “I think you should leave now!”

“No! We’ve paid our money. We’re having our entertainment!”

“This is an art exhibition not a circus!”

“Oh! So this wasn’t painted by a clown?”

“Maybe, I should make myself clearer?”

“Oh! I agree with that.”

“You are upsetting my wife.”

At this point the obnoxious visitor and his companion left the salon.

Much later in his life, Monet commented:

“They said we were declaring war on beauty and that wall paper in its embryonic state was more finished than our pictures but our young heads were filled with beauty.”

Monet painted a picture and called it “My Impression Of Sunrise.”

Someone gave his impression of the picture: “My impression? Unimpressed!”

From this insult came the name “Impressionism”.

Monet exclaimed ruefully:

“A name - the only return on all that work!”

Paul Cezanne was also included in the BBC program. Cezanne kept painting in his unique and powerful style with passionate persistence in spite of criticism and indifference.

His own father told him that he was wasting his time:

“You’re not earning a penny. Perhaps you’re not good enough.”

His friend Zola told him: “I want you to paint the world; then at least you might sell something.”

Cezanne replied: “I am painting for myself not to amuse other people.”

He lived on handouts from his father and Zola.

The critics were brutal. Cezanne told Zola:

“The critics call my work the cult of ugliness painted by a madman with the shakes made by loading pistols with paint and firing them at the canvas!”

“Well, you’re an artists’ artist,” said Zola.

“Manet called me ‘a brick layer who paints with a trowel.’”

Cezanne confided in Zola in a way which he later came to regret.

“I am rolling a rock uphill, Zola, and either I keep on rolling it forever or I let it roll back on me and crush me. But the thing that keeps me going is the hope, the belief that one day I will pick up that boulder with my hands and hurl it to the stars.”

Zola wanted Cezanne to be more commercial in his approach:

“What if future generations just like pretty, pretty paintings?”

Cezanne was not discouraged and walked off.

“Where are you going?” said Zola.

“To paint!”

His answer to criticism, like David Beckham’s, was to work.

Nor did Cezanne’s passion for painting burn low. For example, he found inspiration in a mountain outside Aix He painted it sixty times from different positions on different days. ‘Landscape with Viaduct’ is one of the paintings.

He commented that he only had to turn his head to left or right to find subjects that excited him.

Cezanne kept going not knowing whether he would ever reach his destination. He just kept painting and painting.

Zola told his rich friends:

“I told him that there was no future in the impressionist artists but, frankly, he still keeps going. My dear friend Cezanne does not think enough of public opinion. He despises the most elementary things, language, dress, hygiene - but none of this would matter if he had genius.”

He held up his glass mockingly: “To Cezanne and his lack of genius!”

Zola did not recognize the brilliance of his friend. He even wrote about a character who was a ’splendid failure’ in his novel ‘The Masterpiece’. This character felt as if he was forever pushing a rock up a hill without ever reaching the top.

Cezanne recognized himself in the character in the novel and was upset. He never met Zola again but he kept painting with relentless and persistent determination. He was the last of his group to be recognized.

Eventually an art dealer, Ambroise Vollard, sought him. Cezanne was less than welcoming.

“I have to tell you that I am extremely busy and will be for the rest of my life!”

The art dealer told him that he wanted to put on an exhibition of his paintings.

Cezanne replied: “Can’t you think of better ways to waste your money?”

“People should see your work or you’ll die forgotten. I’ll organize it all”

Over 152 pictures were shown and paintings by Cezanne were sold at last.

“You must be pleased with what we sold,” said Ambroise

His fellow artists were keen to buy. But Zola did not come to the exhibition. Cezanne commented ironically:

“If only he had known that I am bowling Paris over with my masterpieces.”

After many years of persistent painting, Cezanne’s genius was finally recognized:

His fellow artists told him “Cezanne, you have shown us the future.” They assured him that he had laid the foundations of a new century for a new generation of modern painters.

In 1906, Cézanne collapsed while painting outdoors during a thunderstorm. One week later, on October 22, he died of pneumonia

His painter friend, Claude Monet, commented: “He died wishing like all of us that he had more time.”

In 1999, Cézanne’s painting “Rideau, cruchon et compotier” sold not for one franc but for sixty and a half million dollars. It was the fourth highest price paid for a painting up to that time.

Both Monet and Cezanne had kept painting even though they were deeply wounded by the criticism they received from enemies, friends and even family.

Their persistent work in the face of relentless criticism allowed them to achieve enormous success. Cezanne was eventually able to pick up the rock of his despair and hurl it to the stars.

Persistence can help us all to pick up the rocks in our lives whether they are rocks of failure, debt, or lost dreams. Persistence will allow us, too, to hurl these rocks to the stars or at least push them to the top of the hill.

Like Cezanne, we may well die wishing that we had more time. It is important that we ignore criticism from ourselves or others and get on with making daily efforts to achieve our dreams before our time runs out.

Over Crowding of Gaming Laptops

August 18th, 2008 filed under Tech

I remember an era where gaming notebooks were a specialist breed. Obviously for the resellers they were greatly money generating regardless of them not selling in great quantities. I’m pretty certain everyone would have loved to have owned one however were unable to actually justify it. Suppose you a power user they were simply the best laptops you could get. Although they did get everyone thrilled I do not think they sold in quantities because few people actually buy laptops that are expensive. I reckon things are already changing though and will continue to because the bigger manufacturers are all coming into the market.

These are definitely high margin products for the large manufacturers and they are aware of it. Its definitely a great option to larger gross profits. Global manufacturers would certainly find it simpler to get people to buy these laptops. What can little companies possibly do if they are priced out of the market? Now gaming laptops will no longer be viewed as a specialist market. I think the uneducated automatically feel at ease by purchasing from a brand they know.

The notebook computers being released by branded manufacturers are all vieing for the best laptop title. I reckon this will still be the ray of hope for smaller manufacturers though. Majority of the time the pre made units are powerful however not fast enough and a few people do not like that. Such purchasers are typically techies and can check all the fine literature. The fine point are important for this sort of consumer.

Clearly what’s happening here could benefit people in the long haul. Improved technology will be more accessible in the future for most customers as it will act to force costs down further. I write that with a high degree of uncertainty though. Brand new systems are always being launched and these new models typically ask for high prices. It’s tough to tell what will occur now that the established manufacturers have gotten involved in producing gaming notebooks.

The Enemy: Words and How We Use Them

August 17th, 2008 filed under Beyond Cats

As a home based or small business owner you want to exude confidence and authority. You are an expert in your field. How are you conveying your message to your customer? Just like your body language, the words you use and how you use them can take on a whole new meaning.

Some of the words we all have a tendency to use say something completely different to our customers. Let’s say you are placing a call to a customer. When I call I say, “Hi, Joe, I’m calling to tell you about the latest property we have available”. I am very clear, succinct, I have a smile in my voice, and once I finish my reason for calling, I shut up and let my customer or prospect talk.

One of our clients, who we were consulting with on sales, couldn’t figure out why he was having a hard time during his sales calls. What we found out was when he would call rather than being firm and confident, with a smile in his voice; he sounded very tentative, “Hi, I am just calling to see if”. No this verbiage does not work. He did not identify himself, his company, and this client sounded very nervous on the telephone.

So be very careful you don’t use words or phrases that sound as if you are apologizing to your customer right the off bat. In fact, don’t use them at all. Take them out of your vocabulary. Be clear and concise. Speak in an even tone. Nervous people have a tendency to speak way too loudly; or so softly you can’t understand them, or some people speak very quickly. Also, be aware this is not something you are going to fix overnight. These phrases are a habit for many of us. So practice, practice and practice some more. Do role plays and tape yourself. Then listen to yourself, or have family members listen to you and critique you.

Think of the teachers you had in school, or a professor in college who was able to speak in a nice even tone, yet his or her voice carried. Now obviously this is not necessary on the telephone. However, this kind of even toned, lower than usual voice is the kind you want to use. Try to emulate this person in your telephone calling or in dealing with customers face to face.

The way you speak is very important. The pitch and inflection of your voice are also very important. If you have a lot of trouble with this you might want to purchase books on speaking that address the issues of pitch and inflection in your speaking voice. Check out Amazon or Barnes and Noble. They have a wide selection. Again, you are not going to change this overnight. Remember, practice makes perfect.

Two additional common phrases we all have a tendency to use are I believe, and I think. This is fine for your friends and family. However, as a business owner and “an expert” you had better “know”.

For all of you coaches out there be careful with the “we will hopefully achieve”. Make a list of all that they will achieve by going with your program, obviously with the caveat that they do the work outlined.

So take inventory of what you are saying on the telephone; your in-person sales and in your dealings with your customers (for those of you in a storefront). Is your “word language” conveying what you want it to. Or like our body language sometimes, are your words conveying something totally different to your customer. Check to see if you are using any of the above phrases and stop! It may take a while but you will be happy you did.

Recent research by Zemel and his colleagues at the University of Tennessee has shown that consuming three servings a day of calcium-rich dairy foods can speed up weight loss by 50%-70% while strengthening bones and preventing osteoporosis. It’s a no-brainer — how can you argue with eating yogurt, cheese, and milk - all really healthy foods if you choose low-fat versions - while enhancing weight loss?

Weight Loss Myths

Common misconceptions regarding weight loss1-Starches make you fat. Not true-Starchy foods such as potatoes, breads and pasta are the fastest-burning foods you can eat. All are carbohydrates, which provide the body’s main source of ready-to-use fuel. Nutritionists and dieticians recommend that the greatest share of our diet - 60% - be composed of this fuel. “Only a tiny percentage of carbohydrates is ever converted to fat in the body,” says Adam Drewnowski, Ph.D., director of the human nutrition program at the University of Michigan’s School of Public Health. 2-You need to cut calories drastically to lose weight-Not really. When you cut back too hard on calories, the body goes into a conservation mode in which your metabolism switches to a slower pace. This actually decreases your ability to lose weight. To make sure your body keeps burning fat, experts advise that you drop your total caloric-intake only a little while adjusting the fuel mix. According to one study, men who got 25% of their calories from fat, but ate as much as they wanted of other types of food, lost an average of a half-pound per week
