Today’s Question: I have read a lot about detox diets as a weight loss aid. I’m looking to start a weight loss program for myself. I wonder if a detox diet is something I should look at?
Answer: As you might guess, there is not a short and simple answer to this question. As with health and diet related matters, the answer, quite simply, is “it depends.” Whether you particularly would benefit from a detox diet in order to lose weight will depend on a few primary factors. Therefore I must ask you 3 questions:
1. What approximate percent of your body fat is cellulite? If you answer 50% or more, then most unquestionably, a detox diet will be beneficial for you.
2. Do you generally eat these foods: refined or processed foods, diary products, fast food, foods high in artificial ingredients, fatty or fried foods? If you have said YES to any of these, you will definitely do well to supplement your weight loss program with a detox diet.
3. Have you been experiencing any of the common symptoms of body toxicity: digestive issues, halitosis (bad breath), foul-smelling stools, constipation, diarrhea, rashes or other skin troubles, head aches, achiness, chronic fatigue , malaise or PMS? If so, you would gain from a detox diet.
Having said all that, be cognizant of the fact that a body detox is an extremely powerful health technique when done safely, but if done improperly, a detox can actually be damaging. It is extremely consequential that you research the matter and discover a detox diet that is best for your needs and, more significantly, is safe and gentle on your body. Severe detox programs must be be avoided like the plague.
