A Muddy Hike in Grenada

August 5th, 2009 filed under Travel Center

As we were about to land in the tiny airport of Grenada, the only thing I could see from the airplane was lush green forests. This peaceful tourist destination seemed to be covered from coast to coast in a green cloak. Just looking at it from above was refreshing and exciting.

We quickly passed through immigration only to find ourselves stranded as the resort had not sent any vehicle to pick us up. Before we could press the panic button, a brown SUV drove up. The driver was expecting us and we quickly got in, ready for our vacation to begin. It was almost lunchtime and we were hungry. The driver stopped at a local food stand and we found ourselves chomping on some delicious chicken roti. It was some kind of a flat bread with a potato filling and a huge helping of chicken. The food stands nearby had some amazing fresh fruits that were really tempting. After buying a nice stash of passion fruit and bananas we headed to the resort. So far it had lived up to being a peaceful tourist destination.

The next day, after having an early breakfast, we decided to head for the Annandale Falls. It was nearby so we chose to walk it out. The path was beautiful with lush vegetation all around. When we reached the falls, a group of local men were already diving into the waters from the cliff. It looked dangerous but those guys did it effortlessly. After splashing around a bit in the waterfall, we decided to explore more of this peaceful tourist destination by heading towards the Grand Etang rainforest.

The entire trail was covered with wet mud. This was not what I was expecting but luckily we had worn our hiking boots. As we sloshed around in the mud and continued on the trail I started tiring and reaching the end of the trail seemed impossible. But I persevered without forgetting to enjoy the sights and sounds of Grenada. At last we reached the end of the muddy trail and I was covered in mud but still ecstatic. Hiking in Grenada was fun. It turned out to be a perfectly peaceful tourist destination. I was proud of myself and decided to go on more hiking trips from then on, not just in Grenada but back home as well.

Chamonix Mont Blanc France Offers a Grand Domain for Skiing Weekends

June 5th, 2009 filed under Best Recreation Resources, Travel Center

Chamonix is situated at the base of the wonderful Monte Bianco in France and is recognized as the Alpine climbing and extreme skiing capital of France. Chamonix has long been known as a true playground for extreme sports during both summer and winter seasons. The resort hosted the 1st Winter games back in the early 1920s - but it is also a region of exceptional natural beauty offering a lot to the adventurous snowboarder and holiday maker.

Differing from a lot of new ski fields Chamonix town is not a modern ski area and has been mostly preserved from the monstrosities which blight much of the Alps. Chamonix is fortunate to have not only an internationally famous snowboarding mountain but a classic and thriving center.

Chamonix is big enough to insure that there is plenty for the non-skier to do and see. However you choose to enjoy your vacation there is something to please anyone. Not to mention a big swimming centre, cross country skiing, paragliding and local market; and a plethora of designer boutiques, restaurants and night clibs, Chamonix town privides a mix of climbing, old town atmosphere and going out, which not many ski domains can come close to. Therefore reserve that ski holiday at once.

The Story of the Inaugural Catered Chalet Breaks to Chamonix Haute Savoie France

March 27th, 2009 filed under Best Recreation Resources, Travel Center

It was 1770 when the 1st guest house was opened up in Chamonix village. Prior to this Chamonix Mont Blanc embodied a wild and tough agricultural town where folks hunted animals and grew their own wheat.

Barns back then were used to breed cows during the summer months. Their milk was preserved by transforming it into cheeses and stored in the valley for eating during the bleak winters. In the winter the barns were bolted, and any valuables were secured in a liitle hut.

Who invented the chalet holiday is obscured by time, it was probably various keen people who realized a set up that worked. For entrepreneur Erna Low it all started when she was a nostalgic postgraduate and could not visit her parents back home in Austria as much as she would like to. Therefore in 1930 she took a risk and put a small ad in the broadsheets to ask guests on a skiing vacation. For only £15 they traveled to and from the skiing resort, were provided with dinner and accommodation in the sole chalet, and had ski hire and instruction. Holidays were arduous , there weren’t any ski lifts, no safety bindings, only heavy leather shoes, however it was such a hit that Erna Low continued to take groups on breaks, seeing to it that she employed great hotels and ski guides.

These ski vacations in the beginning were a far cry to the luxury we can experience nowadays. Back then hot water was in short supply, the bathrooms would be shared out by all of the punters, and there was no a chef; the punters had to help out. It was a real gamble who may be in the chalet for a holiday, you could be surprised to meet new acquaintances, or grimace at the thought of having to spend any more time with them.

Chalets France were later on advertised on their additional bonuses. A cook, who would serve you continental breakfast and dinner and cooked you a cake, and {more hot water for bathing.

Fantastic Snowboarding Conditions All over the European Alps

There’s been just about 2m snowfall in the last 7 days. The snow has been so deep that chairlifts have been shut down, the funicular has been stopped at Chamonix’s train staion and not going onwards to Les Grands Montets and delays with Geneva transfers. Roads were blocked and avalanche announcements released.

Contrast this to a few winter seasons past, when we experienced the unbelievably warm February weather, grass appearing on mountainsides, and warnings that global warming meant the conclusion of snowboarding in Europe. Highlighting this the report from 2007 predicted that climate change would make skiing too pricey for many skiers, with a third of skiing resorts going bust with the receding of glaciers. Scientists insist that it’s inconceivable to ascribe these annual differences in the snow conditions to the outcomes of global warming.

We could be experiencing the deepest recession in almost 25 yrs, and the Sterling has headed to record lows against the euro, however the snow is grand, and the latest reservations show that people are keen to revel in the first-class skiing conditions. This season is probably the finest in six seasons, and many skiers are stating that it’s the best skiing conditions in at least 10 winter seasons.

However recall that big dumps like these mean large avalanches risks.

Superior Jan Snow for the Northern Alps

Global warming and the credit crunch, these twin risks have let off the Alps, at least for Christmas. But it may have been so wholly contrary. Prior to the holidays towns in the La Chavanette region were cut off as snow came down. Road cols such as the important Col du Chamonix were cut. At that place there was no mains or phones, residents had to be evacuated to temporary housing, it looked as though it were a repetition of 1996.

It seems that all promotion is good promotion. La Mongie appeared every evening on national news bulletins. Immediately mains was restored bookings commenced to pour in, pulled in by the first class conditions.

Les Deux Alpes and nearby Chamonix have almost 5.5 metres snow depth on the top areas at 2100 m altitude and 2.3 metres at the bottom of the resorts. Presently the deepest in Europe. Alpe d Huez alleges that there is four m at the the highest point of the resort. Alas a snow storm has damaged a pylon of the drag lift which serves the domain. It is out of action till the middle of March.

In other resorts in the French Alps bookings are up 19% in Avoriaz, Serre Chevalier and La Rosiere. Araches-la-Frasse has 2% tenancy and distributed a record breaking number of ski passes during Saturday. That is good news for Ski France and other big skiing operators.

Why Antor from Rwanda Visits Chamonix Haute Savoie France

October 31st, 2008 filed under Best Recreation Resources, Travel Center

Chamonix Haute Savoie France is a beautiful holiday destination with the towering Mont Blanc as well as tumbling glaciers. We enjoy going skiing or even visiting the Aiguille du Midi. I sometimes travel from Pikeville and stay at a Chamonix chalet for the duration of my holiday.

I used to went to Inn at Silver Creek but it sometimes didn’t meet the standards of its its advert: Inn at Silver Creek is located in an alpine meadow, one mile from SolVista Basin, and approximately 90 miles from Denver International Airport. This location is also across the street from the Grand Elk Ranch & Club, three miles from Snow Mountain Ranch, 15 miles from Hot Sulphur Springs, 17 miles from Winter Park Ski Resort and Grand Lake Village, and 20 miles from Rocky Mountain National Park. The property’s amenities include the year-round outdoor pool, indoor and outdoor hot tubs, fitness facility, game room, gift shop, Silver Creek Bar and Grill. Parking is complimentary and high-speed Internet access is available in public areas (fee applies). The hotel also offers valet laundry service, a video library, and 24-hour front desk service. Small pets are welcome (fee may apply).

However in Chamonix town the lodge is nearly always brilliant. Even dining in our number one French restaurant, Chapel Hill Farms, enjoying brown rice dressing is a delight. Chamonix France is a big enough town to insure that there is lots of things for the tourist to do. Including a husky sledding centre and a number of restaurants, Chamonix provides a mix of snowboarding, old town charm and shopping which barely any resorts can hope to rival.

The Absolute Best Romantic Gift Idea!

July 8th, 2008 filed under Travel Center

We all want to please and impress that special someone in our lives with a romantic gift. Millions are spent every year trying to accomplish this feat. We may peruse the jewelry store and spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars on beautiful trinkets. Perhaps a night over at an elegant resort is a consideration for your romantic gift idea. But consider this…

A lasting impression can be imprinted on our special someone if he/she is treated to an unforgettable experience. For the price of a fine pair of earrings, you can treat your romantic partner with a dinner cruise along one of the waterways near your corner of the world. For the price of a necklace and earring set, you can book an elegant cruise of four to eight days aboard a magnificent cruise ship. How impressive is that for a romantic gift?

Consider your options here. An afternoon cruise near your home for less than the price of an elegant dinner can provide for a memory of romance and togetherness. For a few dollars more, an enchanted evening of romantic cruising with a lovely dinner and a bottle of fine wine will be lastingly remembered.

Romantic vacation gift cruises can cost as little as $500.00 per person. These romantic experiences can provide you with a lifetime of memories. Envision exotic ports of call, majestic landscapes, sipping a glass of vintage wine on your private balcony, enjoying an exquisite meal in an elegant dining room and dancing into the night… All of this can be yours each day of your cruise!

Would a fabulous gift cruise conjure up a vision of romance? Picture it… Is that a romantic gift idea? Of course it is! No matter what type of romantic gift cruise you choose - afternoon river cruise, evening dinner cruise, four day Caribbean vacation cruise, seven day Alaskan cruise, intriguing Mediterranean cruise or exotic South Seas cruise - you will not be disappointed!

Don’t consider yourself selfish if you’re thinking “with this romantic gift, I’ll get a gift vacation as well”. Your special someone will want you to be as happy as they will be. That’s part of the beauty of romance. Each partner wants the other partner to be happy and to enjoy each others’ company. What better way than to break away from the traditional romantic gifts than to offer your company aboard a floating resort with pampering service and elegant surroundings while visiting exotic, intriguing, majestic and exciting ports-of-call!

Romance is what we are all looking for here. Throughout the ages, the sea has been synonymous with romance. Cruise ships have become synonymous with romance as well since the television weekly “The Love Boat”.
