Government Help and Your Entitlements

July 15th, 2009 filed under Finance News

With the recession plodding on this year, it’s crucial to recognise what benefits you may be entitled to from the UK government. Each year, hundreds of millions of British pounds worth of benefits and tax credits are discarded. A tiny piece of that cash could have been set aside for you, if only you understood you were entitled to it. Whether it’s a working tax credit, a tax credit to help home buyers, or child tax credit, it’s smart to do your homework and determine the type of benefits you are entitled to.

A great place to start is by going to the the UK Inland Revenue website : taxcredits.inlandrevenue.gov.uk. Here you can get information on what tax credits/benefits are on offer to you, and how you can apply for them.

It’s important to observe that the way many tax credits are computed are usually quite complex, so it’s a great idea to call the tax office and chat with an employee there, and explain your particular situation. That way the tax office can determine whether you have a chance to are entitled to certain tax credits or not - as the forms you need to fill in are oftentimes quite lengthy and time-consuming to complete.

Not only is it important to recognize what benefits you may be entitled to, but you might also consider a family member who may be eligible for such a tax credit.
