It’s opinion in more than a few companies that, by giving each employee basic training in workplace safety, they have everything necessary to cope with an emergency. In reality however, a basic education in health and safety regulatory affairs just isn’t adequate. Equipping workers, choosing good supervision and promoting frequent practise are all important factors.

Each team needs an effective supervisor to watch over employee performance, yet this individual must also play an even larger purpose in the business. Whomever you employ as the supervisor must understand the necessity of health and safety education and be able to get other staff feeling enthusiastic.

In addition to enforcing rules and regulations, the employee supervising must also ensure that each employee works efficiently. This is not a simple job. The supervisor needs to possess an in-depth knowledge of the industry and the product not to mention a high level of comprehension of current legislation regarding safety, risk assessment and CPR. It’s just not adequate to supply your employees with health and safety instruction. To successfully find a risk they need to put their newly accquired knowledge to the test. They have to know the best method of eliminating problems and how to react if disaster strikes. Workers are only protected when all they have learned has become automatic.

Education is in fact ineffective without safety gear. Without the appropriate gear or alternatively should staff discover that items are not functioning correctly only after an emergency has occurred, the education your employees have undergone will have been a waste of time.

Servicing your equipment on a regular basis is a necessity. If your gear won’t meet the relevant standards, ensure that it is sorted out as rapidly as you can and put it back in the right place.

Your workers need to get proper health & safety education, but they need good quality equipment, the chance to practise, and a supervisor who has the kind of enthusiasm that people find contagious. Only then will observing the safety regulations be a natural part of life in the workplace instead of something for the workforce to remember.
