Intelius Inc: Intelius and Spock Merger

October 3rd, 2009 filed under Market Commerce, Marketing

In May of 2009, Intelius Inc, based in Bellevue, WA, acquired Spock. Spock is a people search engine founded in 2006 by Jay Bhatti and Jaideep Singh. It is a company that provides organized and up-to-date information about people all over America. Its vision is to “index every people around the globe” and it does this by adding millions of people information into their databases every day.

On the other hand, Intelius is a company that provides background check services, identification and any information one might need, either for business or personal use, through making use of various documents and data available for the public.

Since it started operations in 2006, Spock has had respectable revenue but was not able to get enough advertising sponsors to keep its operations from running and 23 full-time employees satisfied. This was where Intelius came in. The marriage was close to perfect. Looking for ways to make money, Spock found the perfect partner in Intelius and its innovative CEO, Naveen Jain.

Jain’s Intelius makes money through the information it provides its customers and Spock is a people search engine that needed financing. Add to this the fact that the company has an impressive background in terms of profit making. Though not a public company, Intelius has continuously gained profit since it started in 2003. Singh forecasted that the company is on its way to generating $1 billion dollars in profit in three years.

Another notable factor is the professional relationship that Jain has with the heads of the company he purchases. He has proven that he thrives in making those under his leadership become the best that they can be.

Other companies like White Pages and MyLife have bid for Spock, but the Bellevue-based IT Company proved to be the best choice. As Ken Elefant, one of Spock’s investors said, the combination of the two made a lot of sense because consumers demand rich, accurate and authentic information at their fingertips.
