Knowing when a Player Will Go All-In; Letting Him Reopen the Pot for You
One player is short with 185, in BB Blinds are 30/60. I’m pretty short, about 850. I have KK. Big stack UTG min raises to 120. I flat call. I do this because I’m assuming the shorty in BB will shove and then I can come over the top of this UTG big stack when he either flat calls or raises to isolate. The poker online player behind me calls the 120 and then the short stack goes all-in for his 185. The big stack calls, and then I shove. The guy behind me calls, having me covered by about 400 casino chips. I table KK he has 88. I more than double up to over 2k in chips. If I shoved over the min raise, I might not get the dead chips of the short stack in the online poker pot. Also, by letting him shove and re-opening action, the big stack might make a mistake and try to isolate against him. It also looks like I’m trying to isolate when I shove over all this dead money against the short stack, which is why I think 88 called me. I took a gamble that the guy who just took a huge loss of chips and was at 3bbs would shove any two cards from the BB. I was right and it paid off.
